The Los Paseos Bees
July 9th 2006
On the morning of Sunday July 9th an alert member spotted a cluster of bees in the pear tree near the front walkway of the property and immediately informed an adult.  A beekeper was called out to remove the bees and he provided us with a wealth of information along with a very exciting an interesting afternoon.
Ed (Mr. Bee) estimated 20,000 bees in the cluster.
The bees were collected in a bee box.
Some bees did not want to leave the branch and had to be smoked out.  The smoke is meant to imitate a forest fire which causes the bees to leave their hive for safety.
The bees were identified as Italian Honey Bees.  They were collected in a bee box and taken to Bonfante Gardens where they will live, pollenate plants and produce honey!
