Lifeguard Training - Online + Classroom
This is a blended class with 7 hours of online coursework that must be completed before the 2-day classroom work begins. Designed for professional rescuers or anyone interested in learning how to recognize & respond to aquatic emergencies. This course is required to work in California as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or water play area. Through combination of classroom lessons, videos, and in-water skill sessions, participants will learn what it takes to prevent aquatic injuries & respond to emergencies. Minimum age is15 years old. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. Cost is $300.
Participants must be able to:
Swim 300 yards continuously
Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
Complete a timed event within 1 min., 40 sec. by starting in the water, swimming 20 yds., surface dive to a depth of 7-10 ft. to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yds. on the back to return to the starting point and exit the water without using steps or a ladder.
Lifeguard Review - Classroom
An abbreviated Lifeguarding course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years. Cost is $175.
